A memory kept alive
Ancient guardian of wonder (a poem written in free verse)
Where do I truly live?
Is it my heart, my soul, my skin, my mind….
or inside a memory of a moment shared with someone?
I paint life and catch glimpses of being alive.
My realism isn’t a snapshot of the world,
I look so deep and so long
until what’s on the surface dissolves into mystery once again.
The things we think we already know.
Then suddenly we see them for the first time.
It is my job to play and preserve innocence.
I get to invite all our lifetimes
and capture the magic of aliveness between brush and paper,
locked in a colour that never existed before but in that moment alone.
I lose myself when I enter the painting
and find myself more alive on the other side.
Every painting is evidence of my curiosity, my hope, my joy for life.
And when I put the brush down,
a memory is immortalised within its transparent layers.
So pure.
Like glass.
Like mirror.
Like sky.
A pure soul reflected to the eyes that can see it and heart that can hold it.
That is why some see themselves in my art.
And some never will.
